How Much Water Should You Actually Be Drinking?

Let's Talk About It.

Okay, I'm going to need you to forget everything you've ever heard about drinking eight glasses of water a day. Or two litres. Or four litres. Or whatever number someone confidently told you was the magic answer.

Because here's the thing β€” there isn't one. And I say that as someone who has spent years helping people understand their bodies better. There is no universal set amount of fluid that every single human being on the planet needs to drink every single day. We are not all the same. Our bodies, our lifestyles, our environments β€” all different. So why would our hydration needs be identical?

They're not. And that's actually great news, because it means the answer is already inside you. Literally.

The Simplest Hydration Tool You Already Have

Forget the apps. Forget the giant water bottles with motivational quotes telling you to drink up by 2pm. The most effective way to know if you're drinking enough?

Look at your wee. πŸ™ˆ

I know, I know. But hear me out β€” your urine colour is one of the most honest things your body will ever tell you, and most of us completely ignore it.

What Are We Looking For?

Here's your simple guide:

Pale yellow β€” you're doing great. This is the sweet spot. A light, straw-like yellow means your body is well hydrated and your urine is doing its job β€” carrying waste out of your system efficiently. This is exactly where you want to be.

Dark yellow β€” drink up. If your urine is looking more like apple juice than lemonade, your body is telling you it needs more fluid. You're not drinking enough and your body is concentrating your urine as a result. Time to reach for that glass of water.

Completely clear β€” slow down. This one surprises people! Completely clear urine actually means you're overdoing it. You're pushing fluid through your system so quickly that it's not effectively picking up waste on its way through. More isn't always better, friends.

Brown or red β€” see someone. No home remedies, no googling, no waiting to see if it sorts itself out. If your urine appears brown or red, please get it checked by a healthcare professional. It may be nothing, but it needs to be assessed.

So What's the Takeaway?

Stop stressing about hitting a specific number and start tuning in to what your body is already telling you. Pale yellow is your goal. Simple as that.

Your body is incredibly smart β€” it's been trying to communicate with you all along. Sometimes we just need to slow down enough to listen.

And if you have questions about your bladder health, hydration, or anything pelvic floor related β€” you know where to find me. πŸ’Ž
